SIMO: Function and working principle of high-voltage motor slip ring

2024-10-22

The material of the slip ring requires high mechanical strength, good electrical conductor, and corrosion resistance. When in sliding contact with the brush, it must have wear resistance and stable sliding contact characteristics. Generally, steel collector rings have good wear resistance and high mechanical strength, so they are mostly used in synchronous motors where the collector ring wear difference is large due to polarity.

When SIMO slip ring requires corrosion resistance, stainless steel can be used, but the sliding characteristics of stainless steel are unstable. Inappropriate combination with brushes often causes brushes to jump, which easily causes excessive temperature rise or abnormal wear of the brushes, so you must pay more attention when using it.

The radial collector ring is a very common electrical accessory. During normal operation, the three-phase winding is short-circuited by the resistor led out by the radial collector ring. There is a symmetrical three-phase winding on the upper winding. When starting, a starting resistor is connected in series in the rotor winding to achieve the purpose of reducing the starting current. When the radial collector ring vibrates slightly, it should be handled in time to avoid escalating the situation. If not handled in time, the compression spring and brush will be frequently damaged, the radial collector ring will be scrapped, and the motor shaft will be worn radially.

Since the starting resistor can be cut off section by section, the appropriate starting resistor can be connected in series to make the starting torque reach the maximum torque of the motor, shortening the starting process. In addition, after the rotor is connected in series with the resistor, the speed can also be adjusted. If the radial collector ring runs for too long, the keyway on the radial collector ring will be worn wide and the key will be worn due to wear and other reasons, making the gap between the shaft and the radial collector ring too large and causing vibration. The solution is to remove the radial collector ring, reopen the keyway, and replace it with a standard slot. If the inner diameter is severely worn, the radial collector ring should be replaced.

The high voltage motors of SIMO will be the most suitable motor series with high quality and high cost performance.
