How to check the PT100 temperature sensor?

2024-07-25

Check whether the PT100 type sensor works satisfactory.
The PT100 sensor can be divided into 2 wires, 3 wires and 4 wires mode according to different application scenarios (as shown below). In this paper, a 3-wire PT100 sensor will be used to describe the checking procedure.

As a high-precision and stable temperature sensor, PT100 temperature sensor has broad application prospects in industrial automation control systems, laboratory instruments, medical equipment, etc. Its fast response, high precision, good stability and other characteristics make it an important part of the industrial temperature measurement field.

The characteristic of platinum thermal resistor temperature sensor is that the resistance value increases with the increase of temperature, and the resistance decreases with the decrease of temperature.
Therefore, the quality can be quickly judged by measuring the resistance with a multimeter. You can first disconnect the wiring of the platinum thermal resistor in the loop, and then use the 200 ohm position of the resistance range of the multimeter, and then randomly find two wires to measure their resistance values. If the resistance of two wires is 0 and the resistance of the other two wires is about 100 ohms, it is normal. If not, the platinum thermal resistor needs to be replaced.
